الظاهرةُ الاجتماعية هي كلُّ طريقةٍ في السلوك، ثابتةً كانت أو غير ثابتة، قادرةٍ على أن تمارس على الفرد ضغطاً خارجياً؛ أو هي، بعبارة أخرى، كلُّ طريقةٍ في السلوك تعمّ مجتمعاً بعينه، وهي في الوقت نفسه قائمةٌ بذاتها، مستقلةٌ عن تجلّياتها الفردية.
