إن الولع الواسع بالثرثرة لا يُلهمه حبّ المعرفة، بل الخبث: فلا أحد يتحدث عن الفضائل الخفية للآخرين، بل عن رذائلهم الخفية. ولهذا يكون أكثر الكلام غير صحيح، ولا يُحرص على التحقق منه. فخطايا جارنا، كعزاءات الدين، ممتعة إلى الحد الذي لا نتوقف معه لنفحص الأدلة بدقة.
