أما بيرني ساندرز، فهو شخص محترم ونزيه، وقد أيّدته. ما يعنيه بالاشتراكية هو الليبرالية التي جاءت مع «الصفقة الجديدة». والحقّ أن سياساته الفعلية ما كانت لتفاجئ الجنرال أيزنهاور كثيرًا. أن يُسمّى هذا «ثورة سياسية» دليلٌ على مدى انزياح الطيف السياسي نحو اليمين، وخاصةً في السنوات الثلاثين الأخيرة منذ بدأ تطبيق البرامج النيوليبرالية. ما كان يدعو إليه هو استعادة شيء يشبه ليبرالية الصفقة الجديدة، وهذا أمرٌ حسنٌ جدًا.
