لم يُحدث (جوزيف) ستالين، تحت ضغط المعارضة اليسارية، انعطافةً حادةً إلا حين رفض الكولاك تسليم الحبوب للدولة. ولأنه رجل تجريبي، اندفع إلى الطرف النقيض، فجعل هدفه في سنتين أو ثلاث سنوات تجميعَ الفلاحين كافةً، وتصفيةَ الكولاك طبقةً، وضغطَ الخطة الخمسية في أربع سنوات.
