تلك الجماعات البشرية التي تؤمن إيماناً ذاتياً بنسبٍ مشترك، استناداً إلى تشابه في الهيئة الجسدية أو العادات أو كليهما، أو إلى ذكريات الاستعمار والهجرة، هذا الإيمان مهمّ في تكوين الجماعة؛ بل لا يهمّ أن تكون هناك صلةُ دمٍ حقيقية موضوعياً.
