يرتعد البائسون أمام طغاة لا سلطان لهم، فريسةً لآمالهم ومخاوفهم التافهة. ولا يدركون أن الغضب عبث، والخوف بلا جدوى، والشهوة وهمٌ كلّه. ومن كان قلبه متقلّبًا فليس سيّد نفسه؛ قد ألقى درعه، وهجر موقعه، وهو ذاته يصوغ حلقات السلسلة التي تُوثقه.
