ليس عمل المثقف أن يصوغ الإرادة السياسية للآخرين؛ بل أن يعيد، عبر التحليلات التي يجريها في مجاله، فحص الأدلة والافتراضات، وأن يهزّ طرائق العمل والتفكير المعتادة، ويبدّد الألفة التقليدية، ويعيد تقييم القواعد والمؤسسات، وأن يشارك في تكوين إرادة سياسية (حيث له دوره بصفته مواطنًا).
