كان أبي في الجيش، إبّان الحرب العالمية الثانية، وقد نال تعليمه الجامعي من خلال الجيش. وبعد الحرب صار بائعَ تأمين. والحقيقة أنني لم أكن أعرف أبي جيدًا؛ فقد انفصل هو وأمي بعد الحرب. ونشأتُ في كنف جدّتي وجدّي لأمي، وعلى يد أمي.
