إنّ أعمال التخريب الثقافي التي اقترفتها طالبان، وأشهرها تدمير تمثالي بوذا العملاقين في باميان، ألحقت أضرارًا فادحة بالثقافة الأفغانية والمشهد الفني. فقد أحرقت الحركة عددًا لا يُحصى من الأفلام وأجهزة الفيديو وأشرطة الموسيقى والكتب واللوحات، وزجّت بصانعي الأفلام والموسيقيين والرسامين والنحاتين في السجون.
