لقد اغتصبنا كثيراً من السلطات التي كنا ننسبها إلى الله. ونحن، خائفون وغيرُ مستعدّين، تولّينا سيادةَ الحياة والموت على العالم كلّه وعلى كلّ الكائنات الحيّة. والخطر والمجد والاختيار يقعان في نهاية الأمر على عاتق الإنسان. وقد حان اختبار كماله. ولأننا تقمّصنا قدرةً إلهية، فعلينا أن نلتمس في أنفسنا المسؤوليةَ والحكمةَ اللتين كنّا نسأل الله أن يمنحهما لنا.
