هو يشير إلى إنسانٍ لا تقتصر حسن أخلاقه على آدابه الظاهرة، بل يملك توازنًا وسيطرة راسخة على نفسه، وانضباطًا خلقيًا يجعله يُخضع طوعًا مصلحته الأنانية لمصالح المجتمع الذي يعيش فيه الأوسع. فالجنتلمان، إذن، إنسان ثقافي بأنبل معاني الكلمة، إن كنا نعني بالثقافة لا مجرد ثروة من المعرفة الفكرية، بل القدرة على أداء الواجب وفهم الإنسان الآخر واحترام كل مبدأ ورأي وعقيدة يُعلَن عنها بإخلاص.
