مع أنّ ضميرنا الأخلاقي جزءٌ من وعينا، فإننا لا نشعر بأنفسنا نِدًّا له. فهذا الصوت الذي لا يُسمع إلا ليُصدر إلينا الأوامر ويقرّر المحظورات، لا نستطيع أن نتعرّف فيه إلى أصواتنا؛ فنبرته نفسها تنبّهنا إلى أنه يعبّر عن شيءٍ فينا ليس منّا.
