قوّة المجتمع أو ضعفه يتوقفان على مستوى حياته الروحية أكثر من توقفهما على مستوى تصنيعه. لا اقتصاد السوق، ولا حتى الوفرة العامة، يمثّل الإنجاز الأسمى للحياة الإنسانية. وإذا استنفدت الأمة طاقاتها الروحية، فلن تنجيها من الانهيار أكملُ بنيةٍ حكومية، ولا أيُّ تنمية صناعية. الشجرة ذات اللبّ المتعفّن لا تقوم.
