بغير ما يكفي من البرّية ستتغيّر أمريكا. فالديمقراطية، بشخصياتها المتعددة وتطورها المتزايد، لا بد أن تشتدّ وتنتعش بالتواصل المنتظم مع نموّ الطبيعة في الهواء الطلق: الحيوانات والأشجار ودفء الشمس والسماء الطليقة، وإلا ذبلت وشحبت.
