الثقافة العالمية الراهنة أشبه بوافدٍ متغطرس؛ يصل إلى مسرح الكوكب بعد أربعة ونصف مليار سنة من فصول أخرى، وبعد أن ينظر حوله بضعة آلاف من السنين، يعلن أنه صار يملك الحقائق الأبدية. غير أنّ عالماً يتغيّر بسرعة عالمنا هذا، فإنّ هذه الوصفة وصفةٌ للكارثة. فلا أمّة، ولا دين، ولا نظام اقتصادي، ولا مجموعة من المعارف، يُرجّح أن تملك كل الأجوبة اللازمة لبقائنا. لا بدّ أن تكون هناك أنظمة اجتماعية كثيرة تعمل أفضل بكثير من أيّ نظام قائم اليوم. وفي التقليد العلمي، مهمتنا أن نجدها.
