يحتاج الإنسان عشرين عامًا ليخرج من الحال النباتية التي كان عليها في رحم أمه، ومن الحال الحيوانية المحضة التي هي نصيب طفولته الأولى، إلى حال يبدأ فيها نضج العقل بالظهور. وقد احتاج الإنسانُ ثلاثين قرنًا ليتعلم القليل عن بنيته. ويحتاج إلى الأبد ليتعلم شيئًا عن روحه. أما قتلُه فيستغرق لحظة.
