الضرر الخاص في إسكات التعبير عن الرأي أنّه يسلب الجنس البشري حقّه: الأجيال القادمة كما الحاضرة، ومَن يخالفون الرأي أكثر ممّن يعتنقونه. فإن كان الرأي صائبًا، حُرموا فرصة استبدال الخطأ بالحقيقة؛ وإن كان خاطئًا، خسروا ما لا يقلّ نفعًا عنه، وهو الإدراك الأوضح والوقع الأحيّ للحقيقة، الناتج عن اصطدامها بالخطأ.
