أرى نفسي قبل كل شيء قارئاً، ثم كاتباً، لكنّ ذلك أمرٌ ثانوي إلى حدٍّ ما. أظنّ أنني قارئ جيد، وقارئ جيد بلغاتٍ كثيرة، ولا سيما بالإنجليزية، إذ جاءني الشعر عبر الإنجليزية؛ في البداية من خلال حبّ أبي لسوينبرن وتنيسون، وكذلك كيتس وشيلي وغيرهم، لا عبر لغتي الأم، ولا عبر الإسبانية. جاءني كنوعٍ من السحر. لم أكن أفهمه، لكنني شعرت به.
