يطلب بعض الناس المعرفة بدافع الفضول الطبيعي وحبّ الاستطلاع، وبعضهم ليُسلّي عقله بالتنوّع والمتعة، وبعضهم للزينة والسُّمعة، وبعضهم للغلبة والمجادلة، وكثيرون للمال وكسب العيش، وقليلون جدًّا من يوظّفون الهبة الإلهية، أي العقل، في خدمة البشر ونفعهم.
