ما الفرق الجوهريّ بين الرجل والمرأة، حتى يجذب أحدهما الآخر على هذا النحو؟ لم يجب أحد عن ذلك إجابة مُرضية. ربما علينا أن نُقرّ بعدل التمييز الذي يجعل للرجل مجال الحكمة، وللمرأة مجال الحب، مع أنّ كلًّا منهما لا يختصّ بأحدهما وحده. فالرجل يقول للمرأة دائمًا: لماذا لا تكونين أكثر حكمةً؟ والمرأة تقول للرجل دائمًا: لماذا لا تكون أكثر حبًّا؟ وليس في وسعهما أن يختارا أن يكونا حكيمين أو محبّين؛ لكن ما لم يجمع كلٌّ منهما بين الحكمة والحب، فلن تكون هناك حكمة ولا حب.
