أرى في هذه الأمة عشرات الملايين من مواطنيها، وجزءًا كبيرًا من مجموع سكانها، محرومين في هذه اللحظة من الكثير مما تسميه أدنى المعايير اليوم ضروريات الحياة. أرى ثلث أمة يفتقر إلى مسكن لائق، وإلى كساء كافٍ، وإلى غذاء صحي. ليس معيار تقدمنا أن نضيف إلى وفرة من يملكون الكثير، بل أن نوفّر ما يكفي لمن يملكون القليل جدًا.
