لنسأل… كيف تعمل الأشياء على مستوى الإخضاع المستمر، على مستوى تلك العمليات المتواصلة وغير المنقطعة التي تُخضع أجسادنا، وتتحكم في إيماءاتنا، وتملي سلوكنا، وما إلى ذلك… ينبغي أن نحاول اكتشاف كيف يتكوّن الأفراد تدريجيًا ومطّردًا وفعليًا وماديًا عبر تعدد من الكائنات والقوى والطاقات والمواد والرغبات والأفكار وغيرها. وينبغي أن نحاول أن نفهم الإخضاع في تجلّيه المادي بوصفه تكوينًا للذوات.
