كل إنسانٍ مفكّر، حين يفكّر، يدرك أن تعاليم الكتاب المقدّس متشابكةٌ في نسيج حياتنا المدنية والاجتماعية كلها، حتى إنه سيكون من المستحيل حرفياً، لا مجازياً، أن نتصوّر حجم الخسارة لو أُزيلت هذه التعاليم. سنفقد كل المعايير التي نحكم بها اليوم على الأخلاق العامة والخاصة، وكل المقاييس التي نسعى، بعزيمةٍ أكثر أو أقل، إلى الارتقاء بأنفسنا نحوها.
