كلّما أزهقت روحُ أمريكيٍّ على يد أمريكيٍّ آخر دون مبرّر، سواء باسم القانون أو خرقًا له، على يد رجلٍ واحد أو عصابة، بدمٍ باردٍ أو في ثورة غضب، في نوبة عنف أو ردًّا على عنف، وكلّما مزّقنا نسيجَ حياةٍ نسجها إنسانٌ آخر بمشقّة وتعثّر لنفسه ولأبنائه، فإنّ الأمّة كلّها تُهان.
