فلا بدّ للموت أن يكون حاضرًا في مكانٍ ما من المجتمع؛ فإن لم يعد حاضرًا في الدين (أو صار حضوره أخفّ)، فلا بدّ أن يكون في مكان آخر، ولعلّه في هذه الصورة التي تُنتج الموت وهي تسعى إلى حفظ الحياة. والتصوير الفوتوغرافي، المعاصر لانحسار الشعائر، قد يقابل تسلّل موتٍ لا رمزيّ إلى مجتمعنا الحديث، خارج الدين وخارج الطقس، أشبه بغطسةٍ مفاجئة في الموت الحرفيّ.
