المقصود بالبرجوازية طبقةُ الرأسماليين المعاصرين، أصحابِ وسائل الإنتاج الاجتماعي وأربابِ العمل الذين يشغّلون العمالة المأجورة. والمقصود بالبروليتاريا طبقةُ العمّال المأجورين المعاصرين، الذين لا يملكون وسائل إنتاج خاصة بهم، فيُضطرّون إلى بيع قوة عملهم ليعيشوا.
