يشعر الإنسان في لحظات الذروة أكثر من أي وقت آخر بأنه المركز المسؤول والفاعل والمبدع لأفعاله وإدراكه. يشعر بأنه المحرّك الأول، وأكثر تحكّمًا بذاته (لا مسيّرًا ولا مسيطرًا عليه، ولا عاجزًا أو تابعًا أو خاضعًا أو ضعيفًا أو مُملى عليه). يشعر بأنه سيّد نفسه، مسؤول تمامًا، إرادته حاضرة كاملة، وله من «حرية الاختيار» أكثر مما له في غير تلك اللحظات، سيّدُ مصيره، وفاعلٌ بحق.
