قبل نحو شهر من اغتياله، سأله ديفيد فروست عن الصيغة التي يريد أن يُكتب بها نعيُه، فأجاب: شيءٌ يتعلّق بكوني أسهمتُ بشيء ما، إمّا في بلدي، أو في خدمة من هم أقلّ حظاً. وأتذكّر ما كتبه ألبير كامو عن أنّ هذا العالم ربما كان عالماً يعاني فيه الأطفال، لكنّ بوسعنا أن نُقلّل من عدد الأطفال المتألّمين، فإن لم تفعل أنت ذلك، فمن يفعله؟ وأودّ أن أشعر بأنّني فعلتُ شيئاً للتخفيف من هذه المعاناة.
