باستثناء قلّة من الحالات، لم تأتِ الديمقراطية بحكومة صالحة إلى الدول النامية الجديدة. فما يقدّره الآسيويون ليس بالضرورة ما يقدّره الأمريكيون أو الأوروبيون. ويقدّر الغربيون حريات الفرد وحقوقه. أما أنا، بوصفي آسيويًا من أصل ثقافي صيني، فقيمي حكومةٌ نزيهة وفعّالة وكفؤة.
