ينبغي أن يعني تعلّمُ الحياة تعلّمَ الموت، أي الإقرارَ بفناءٍ مطلق وقبولَه، دون ثمرةٍ إيجابية، ولا بعثٍ، ولا خلاصٍ لنفسك أو لأحدٍ سواك. هذه هي الوصية الفلسفية القديمة منذ أفلاطون: أن تكون فيلسوفًا يعني أن تتعلّم كيف تموت.
