الحسّ الأخلاقي، أو الضمير، شعورٌ بالغ التعقيد، منشؤه الأول الغرائز الاجتماعية، وتوجّهه في الغالب استحسانُ بني البشر، وتحكمه العقلانية والمصلحة الذاتية، وفي أزمنة لاحقة المشاعر الدينية العميقة، ويرسخه التعليم والعادة؛ وهذه العناصر مجتمعةً هي ما يشكّل حسنا الأخلاقي.
