أنا مع حرية الضمير بأنبل معانيها وأوسعها وأسماها. لكنني لا أستطيع أن أمنح حرية الضمير للبابا وأتباعه من الكاثوليك، ما داموا يقولون لي، عبر مجامعهم وعلمائهم ومدوّناتهم الكنسية، إنّ ضمائرهم تأمرهم بحرق زوجتي، وخنق أبنائي، وذبحي حين تتاح لهم الفرصة.
