ليس شيءٌ يعزّز السلطة كالصمت. هو الفضيلة العليا للأقوياء، وملاذ الضعفاء، وتواضع المتعالين، وكبرياء المتواضعين، وحكمة الحكماء، وفطنة الحمقى. فالكلام تبديدٌ للقوة، بينما يتطلب الفعل التركيز. والصمت تمهيدٌ ضروريّ لترتيب الأفكار.
