يمكننا على الأقل أن نحاول فهم دوافعنا وانفعالاتنا وأحكامنا المسبقة، كي نعي ما نفعله حين نستثير دوافع الآخرين وانفعالاتهم وأحكامهم المسبقة. وهذا عسير جدًا، لأنّ أحكامنا المسبقة وميولنا العاطفية تبدو لنا دائمًا عقلانية تمامًا.
