إيقاعُ التقدّم من السرعة بحيث يصبح ما يتعلمه المرء في المدرسة أو الجامعة دائمًا متقادمًا بعض الشيء. لا يستطيع مواكبة الجبهة المتسارعة للمعرفة إلا قلّةٌ قليلة، وهؤلاء عليهم أن يكرّسوا أوقاتهم كلّها لها ويتخصّصوا في مجال ضيّق. أما بقية الناس فلا يكاد يكون لديهم أدنى فكرة عمّا يُنجَز من تقدّم، ولا عن الحماسة التي يثيرها.
