المشكلة التي يواجهها العالم اليوم أن ثلث سكانه فقط يعيشون في ظروف لائقة، بينما يعيش نصفهم على دولار أو دولارين في اليوم. وفي الوقت ذاته الذي نعاني فيه هذا الفقر والتخلّف، نواجه أزمة بيئية عالمية. نحتاج إلى نماذج تنموية تأخذ في الحسبان الموقع الخاص والفريد لكل بلد، وتعالج في الوقت نفسه الأزمة البيئية.
