لا يمكن فهم العلم إلا معرفيًّا، أي بوصفه فئةً من فئات المعرفة الممكنة، ما دامت المعرفة لا تُختزل لا في المعرفة المطلقة لفلسفةٍ عظيمة بإفراطٍ حماسي، ولا في الفهم العلموي الأعمى لعمل البحث الفعلي.
