في وسط عنبر الشحن الفسيح كان ثمة تابوتٌ بسيط من الألومنيوم، عليه علمٌ أمريكي صغير. كنا ننقل جنديًا أمريكيًا آخر قُتل للتو، إلى أسرته ومثواه الأخير. وكان لخلوّ التابوت في وسط العنبر، وللصمت الذي لم يقطعه سوى هدير المحركات، وقعٌ بارد يذكّرنا في اللحظة بعواقب القرارات التي نتحمل نحن أعضاء مجلس الشيوخ مسؤوليتها.
