من سمح لنفسه أن يكذب مرة واحدة، وجد أن الكذبة الثانية والثالثة أيسر عليه، حتى يصير الكذب عادة؛ يكذب دون أن يلتفت إلى ذلك، ويصدق دون أن يصدّقه الناس. وهذا الكذب باللسان يقود إلى الكذب بالقلب، فيُفسد مع الوقت كل ما فيه من خير.
