كان الانقسام العرقي لعنةَ أمريكا الدائمة. كل موجة جديدة من المهاجرين تمنح الأحقاد القديمة أهدافًا جديدة. والبغض والازدراء، متدثرَين بذريعة القناعة الدينية أو السياسية، ليسا أقل شأنًا. لقد كادا أن يدمّرانا في الماضي، وما زالا يُنهكاننا. إنهما يغذّيان تعصّب الإرهاب، ويُعذّبان حياة الملايين في أمم متصدّعة حول العالم. هذه الهواجس تُقعد الذين يُكرهون، وبالطبع الذين يكرهون، فتسلب منهم جميعًا ما كان يمكن أن يصيروا إليه.
