من بين كلّ الخصال والعادات التي تقود إلى الازدهار السياسي، يُعدّ الدين والأخلاق دعامتين لا غنى عنهما. وعبثًا يدّعي الوطنية من يسعى إلى هدم هذه الأعمدة الكبرى لسعادة الإنسان، وهذه الدعائم الأمتن لواجبات الرجل والمواطن... ولقد حرّمت علينا العقلُ والتجربةُ معًا أن نتوقع أن تسود الأخلاقُ الوطنيةُ بمعزلٍ عن المبادئ الدينية.
