الصورة الفوتوغرافية هي حرفياً انبعاثٌ من المرجع. من جسدٍ حقيقيّ كان هناك تصدر إشعاعاتٌ تصل في النهاية إليّ، أنا الذي هنا؛ ومدة انتقال هذا الإشعاع ضئيلةٌ لا تُذكر. إن صورةَ الغائب، كما يقول سونتاغ، ستمسّني كما تمسّني أشعةُ نجمٍ وصلت متأخرة.
