بما أنني لا أدخّن، قررتُ أن أُطلق شاربًا، فهو أفضل للصحة. غير أنني كنتُ أحمل دائمًا علبة سجائر مرصّعة بالجواهر، لم أضع فيها تبغًا، بل شواربَ مختارة بعناية، على طريقة أدولف مِنجو. كنت أعرضها بأدب على أصدقائي: «شارب؟ شارب؟ شارب؟» فلم يجرؤ أحد على لمسها. وكان هذا اختباري لقدسية الشوارب.
