لنضع حداً لهذه الحرب الأهلية الأوروبية، التي لا نريد أن نعترف بوجودها، ولنكفّ عن النظر باستمرار إلى ما إذا كنا أفضل من جارتنا في هذا الشأن أو ذاك. يجب أن نكون منفتحين على الأشياء الجديدة، بما فيها تلك التي كانت محرّمة حتى الآن: فرنسا لا تزال تصر على أن المعاهدات لا يمكن تعديلها. وألمانيا لا تريد أي تحويلات مالية. علينا أن نتخلى عن طرق التفكير القديمة هذه.
