التحدي يكمن في: هل تستطيع الصين، بوصفها دولة صاعدة، والولايات المتحدة، بوصفها القوة العظمى، أن تبنيا علاقة تعاونية في هذه المرحلة، قبل أن تطغى القومية في الصين بوصفها بديلاً عن الشيوعية، وقبل أن تتحوّل في هذا البلد عزلة متعالية تأخذ الصين مكان الاتحاد السوفيتي؟
