معظم ضروب الجهل قابلة للدفع، وفي أغلب الحالات يكون الغباء، كما وصفه بوذا، خطيئة. فنحن، عن وعي أو عن غير وعي، نتعمّد ألّا نعرف أو ألّا نفهم، لأن الجهل يتيح لنا بضمير مرتاح أن نتهرّب من الالتزامات والمسؤوليات المزعجة، ولأن الجهل أفضل عذر للاستمرار في فعل ما نحبّ، مما لا ينبغي لنا فعله.
