الكاتب المقالي إنسانٌ متحرر من ذاته، تسنده الفكرة الطفولية بأن كل ما يفكر فيه، وكل ما يحدث له، يهمّ الناس جميعًا. إنه رجل يستمتع بعمله استمتاع من يخرج في نزهات لمراقبة الطيور. فكل رحلة جديدة يقوم بها الكاتب المقالي، وكل «محاولة» جديدة، تختلف عن سابقتها وتأخذه إلى أرض جديدة، وهذا يسعده. ولا يملك الجرأة والصبر على كتابة المقالات إلا من كان متمركزًا حول ذاته بالفطرة.
