حين يفكّر الناس في الهجوم السيبراني، يميلون إلى تصوّر أجزاء من البنية التحتية الحساسة، كمحطات الكهرباء، وإمدادات المياه، وغيرها من المنشآت الثقيلة والمرافق الحيوية. ويمكن أن تُستهدف هذه المنشآت ما دامت متصلة بالشبكة، وما دامت لديها أنظمة تتفاعل معها يمكن التلاعب بها عبر الاتصال بالإنترنت.
