ليس الحلم بعظمة ومهابة موهبةً تُمنح لجميع الناس، وحتى من يملكونها معرّضون لخطر كبير أن تضمر تدريجياً بفعل تشتّت الحياة الحديثة المتزايد، وبفعل القلق الذي يولّده التقدّم المادي. والقدرة على الحلم قدرةٌ إلهيّة غامضة، إذ بالأحلام يتواصل الإنسان مع العالم الخفيّ المحيط به. لكنّ هذه القدرة تحتاج إلى العزلة كي تنمو بحرية؛ فكلما ازداد المرء تركيزاً، كان أقرب إلى أن يحلم حلماً تاماً وعميقاً.
