فحين تمضي السفينة هادئةً على صفحة الماء، يرى البحّارة حركتها منعكسةً في كل ما حولهم خارجها، بينما يحسبون أنفسهم ساكنين، وكذلك كل ما على ظهرها. وعلى المنوال نفسه، يمكن لحركة الأرض أن تُولّد، بلا ريب، انطباعًا بأنّ الكون كله يدور.
